Temperature Blanket 2022

I had been thinking of doing this since last year, but after only 2 months of doing crochet, I thought it was too big of a project. This year I hesitated on doing one because it’s a full year commitment, but I finally decided to do so!

I started my research at the beginning of Feb. Doesn’t matter, we’ll make it work. For now, I will share the pages and tools I used to get it done.

What the hell is a temperature blanket?

Through Pinterest I landed on this amazing page. Please go check all of her content out. She makes it so easy!

But for those who are not familiar, a temperature blanket is basically a crochet project where you associate temperature ranges to yarn colors, and you crochet one line per day of the year based on the daily temperature in your location. It is a lot of fun, and you don’t know what your blanket will end up looking like.

Where do we start?

First step was to decide the temperature chart to use. Okie Girl has several free ones HERE . I chose #5 based on my city’s temperature.

Second, I needed to choose my colors. For that one I found a post from Fox and Pine Stitches and I took their color palette minus some of the colors as I only needed 10 based on my chart. You can check the pallet out HERE. The yarn I ordered was from Loops & Thread Impeccable and the colors I selected were: Soft Rose, Rich Orchid, Lippy, Petunia, Lavender, Eggplant, Skylight, Aqua, Teal, and Blue Moon.

I then went to https://canada.michaels.com/ and ordered all the colors. My logic as to how many to buy for each was to take the historically monthly average in my city and compare it to my chart. If the letter/colour had only 1 month, I ordered one ball only and if it had 2 or more, I order two. Not sure if this logic will work but I can always buy additional yarn if needed.

I chose to use white yarn for the edges and to separate the months however, I realized that had forgotten to purchase the white yarn from the same brand after I had completed the order. So, I decided to simply use leftover yarn I have even if it’s not the same brand. I’m sure it will be ok.

Getting the data

Since I live in Montreal, Canada I am using this page to get the temperature data HERE. I am basing my blanket on the mean temperature. You can also use other weather websites such as Visual Crossing which also has US info. To access click HERE

That’s where we are at. I’ll upload the first part of Jan soon. I have a lot of catching up to do!
